The data on this website were taken from the Annual Secretary of the Board Reports (ASBRs), submitted by each district to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) on or before August 15 of each year, as required by Section 162.821 of the Missouri Revised Statutes. The ASBRs contain information such as revenues, expenditures, fund balances, and debt.

The Show-Me Institute downloaded the 2020-21 ASBRs for each district and charter Local Education Agency (LEA) and transformed the data to make them more user friendly. Please refer to the DESE Accounting Manual for detailed information on the components of ASBRs. All ASBRs are available on the DESE website Missouri Comprehensive Data System (MCDS) portal at apps.dese.mo.gov/MCDS/home.aspx, under Reports and Resources, School Finance Data.
